As part of a £17 million redevelopment Liverpool design agency Smiling Wold has been selected to brand Southport’s forthcoming regional culture hub, The Atkinson.

Following a competitive tender process, the studio has been awarded the contract which forms part of a development programme funded by Sefton Council, North West Development Agency and Sea Change.

Due to launch in April 2013, The Atkinson will boast a gallery, a studio, theatre, bistro and museum amongst others. Smiling Wolf will now look to develop the brand, design communication and digital offering for the centre. The centre redevelopment encompasses the integration of the Southport Arts Centre, the Atkinson Art Gallery and Southport Library into one cultural focal point.

The Atkinson’s marketing, programme and visitor services manager, Emma Lloyd, commented: “We are delighted to be working with Smiling Wolf on The Atkinson's branding and digital offer.

“As an agency they are renowned for their innovation and creativity and we know that they will deliver something very special to help make The Atkinson a brand in its own right and a cultural destination for tourists and visitors to the town.”

Simon Rhodes, managing director at Smiling Wolf, added: “We're thrilled on the appointment and to be working with the team at The Atkinson; it constitutes such a significant part of Southport's cultural offer.”
