VisitSuffolk has defended its 'Curious County' campaign after the slogan was described by an MP as 'idiotic'.

The campaign, which launched last month, was supported by hashtags such as #proudtobecurious and #curiouscounty.

Yesterday, David Ruffley, MP for Bury St Edmunds, said: "There is nothing curious about what we have to offer. This slogan is idiotic and meaningless, if not potentially dangerous for the tourism industry.”

Amanda Bond, brand manager for VisitSuffolk, described the campaign as being "a totally new and innovative digital media campaign" and added that it allowed them to generate interest in the region through social media.

"It is also important to remember that The Curious County will be one to our bow with www.visitsuffolk.com remaining the main route into Suffolk with its traditional information and portrayal of the county."

It was also claimed that the Twitter hash tag had reached almost 34,000 users and generated 59, 289 page impressions.
