Spotify has announced the launch of its music streaming app on internet enabled Samsung Smart TVs, Blu-ray Players and home theatre systems across Europe.

Available to Spotify Premium members from today, October 10, via Samsung’s Smart Hub, the user interface has been specifically tailored to make it easier to use on the larger screen.

The Spotify app is already available on the Virgin Media cable TV platform and has initially launched on Samsung Series 7 and Series 8 Smart TVs, with plans to expand across rest of the range at the end of the month, in an effort to reach the company’s key objective of providing music across a multitude of platforms.

Pascal de Mul, the global head of hardware partnerships at Spotify, commented: "The television is at the heart of most people's home entertainment experience, so it is a natural fit to make our music service available on internet-connected Smart TVs."

Samsung's director content services, Dan Saunders, also said: "We are thrilled to debut the new Spotify app on Samsung Smart TVs, which will make listening to favourite tracks even easier for our customers who will no longer have to worry about connecting cables from their laptop or tablet to their HiFi equipment.

"For the first time, they will be able to use their Samsung Smart TVs and home theatre systems to enjoy Spotify's huge music library from the comfort of their living room."
