This is Apple's yet-to-be-announced iPad Mini , according to Sonny Dickson, a researcher for 9to5mac.com. He has published the images on his Twitter feed.

The iPad Mini ... or could it be IPad Nano

The images show a device that is significantly smaller than the regular iPad. The mini is thought to be 7in diagonally, compared to the 9.7in of the normal iPad.

It is said to have a liquid crystal display, rivaling Google's Nexus 7 and Amazon's Kindle Fire and will fit into a large jacket pocket.

TrustedReviews predicts the iPad Mini - which some are calling the iPad Nano - will use a 1,024 x 768 pixel panel.

The iPad Mini also utilises the controversial new connector introduced with the iPhone 5, which, to the annoyance of Apple loyalists, has made all accessories for previous Apple gadgets obsolete.

As the Drum reported last week, Apple is understood to have told suppliers in China to make 10million of the new smaller tablet computers.

Insiders say the iPad Mini will be announced on October 17 and go on sale on November 2.

This is of course all speculation. Apple is still officially not saying a word - so we could all be in for a big shock.
