Appearing in time for the crucial Christmas retail period, Waterstones is focusing on the experience of shopping in a bookstore for its latest campaign. Created by Leagas Delaney, the campaign aims to remind people that nothing can compete with the experience of shopping in a real book store.

Starting this week, posters featuring straplines including, ‘A good book will keep you fascinated for days. A good bookshop for your whole life,’ and ‘Books you can’t put down are much easier to find when you can actually pick them up,’ will run across outdoor media and press. With media planning and buying coordinated by OMD.

Creative director at Leagas Delaney, Nigel Roberts, commented: “It’s never been easier to buy books. They’re in supermarkets, petrol stations and obviously on the internet. But buying a book isn’t just about convenience, or price. It’s about the irreplaceable pleasure of discovery that only a good bookshop can offer.

“People still love books. But we need to remind them to love their bookshops.”
