Who can forget Clint Eastwood 's conversation with with Obama's empty chair at the Republican convention in Tampa ?

Has anyone seen the president?

Many thought the 82-year-old star missed the mark and his off-key effort marked the start of a downward slide for Romney, who was to give his big speech after him.

Turns out Obama was a real -life empty chair in the first presidential debate in Denver, at least in the eyes of the New Yorker, whose cover we show here. Many disappointed Democrats agreed.

The president unaccountably failed to attack Romney on several fronts, particularly Romney's abandonment of 47% of the American people in remarks he thought were private to a gathering of big donors. Obama seemed curiously unwilling to engage in the Denver debate and it cost him big time.

Former VP Al Gore says he thinks Obama may have been affected by the 5000 feet altitude. Romney had been in the mile-high city at least a day before, preparing for the debate. Obama flew in at 2pm on the day of the debate - not much room for rehearsal.

Did Romney crib notes for the debate as Gawker suggests, with this pic strip of the Republican seemingly slipping out notes at the rostrum (against the rules).

No matter, Obama now has a bigger mountain than ever to climb. Maybe, he should take an oxygen tank along.
