Skype has revealed that it is set to launch wi-fi in cafés, restaurants and shops across Britain who pay the provider £9.99 per month.

The service is being launched in partnership with wireless provider Wicoms, with customers set to be able to access the internet for free after logging into the Skype app.

Owen Geddes, managing director at Wicoms, said: "We're helping brick and mortar retailers effectively compete with online retailers.

"By working with a globally trusted partner like Skype to provide Free Skype wi-fi on-premise, business owners and high-street retailers can open a dialogue with potential customers and encourage sales conversion with the power of the mobile phone."
