The Weather Channel is to launch new iOS 6-compatible apps for both the iPhone and iPad this week, with new integrations being added to both the free and paid versions of the app.

Both versions of the app will now feature push notifications for severe weather and an improved sharing functionality which will take advantage of the iOS 6 Facebook integration feature. From the app home screen users can now click on the ‘Share’ icon to send current conditions, severe weather alerts, or tropical updates directly to friends via Facebook, Twitter, email and SMS.

The paid for Weather Channel app will be updated with the new redesign which rolled out onto the free version in May. The paid for app will now look like the free version but features no advertisements, a future radar for the next six hours, and expanded forecast details.

The iPad app has also been improved with new enhancements for speed and performance.

The Weather Channel app will now only support devices using iOS 5 and above.
