‘i’ the streamlined daily counterpart of the Independent, has announced that it has partnered with Starbucks which will see it sold at 600 of the chains coffee houses from October 1.

The deal will see i offered to customers alongside their lattes from Monday to Friday with the Independent on Sunday also to be placed on sale.

This coincides with a month long TV, street seller and direct mail campaign airing from 2 October complementing moves to expand video on demand and student media.

It is believed that encouraging consumers to trial the paper in retail converts twice as many readers as other tactics.

The title registered 281,318 sales in August, its highest circulation to date and the only quality national to register a growth in sales.

Andrew Mullins, managing director of i , The Independent and The London Evening Standard said; “Starbucks is a perfect fit for i . Starbucks is a high quality iconic brand and an important fixture in the everyday life of busy modern urbanites. i was specifically designed to meet the needs of this audience.

“The combination of quick break with a coffee and a catch up on the news perfectly fits with Starbucks concept of a third place between work and home. It also should help i reach many lapsed and infrequent newspaper buyers who now so rarely go into newsagents.

“We are genuinely delighted to be in partnership with Starbucks and believe the relationship will evolve and become mutually beneficial.”
