Former ITV group marketing director David Pemsel has been appointed as the new chief commercial officer at Guardian News & Media as part of a series of management changes.

Director of digital development Tanya Cordrey is also joining the management team after being promoted to the new executive role of chief digital officer.

But executive director (commercial) Adam Freeman is leaving the company this month after 10 years to launch a digital start-up dubbed MutualMedia.

Also leaving is global commercial director Chris Pelekanou, who will depart in December after 20 years to join Clear Channel Outdoor as commercial director.

Pemsel has worked with GNM for a year as interim chief marketing officer and will now have extra responsibility for sales organisation - which includes Guardian Professional, business development and brand extention - and display.

Cordrey joined GNM in 2008 to work on the group's enivronment products and most recently oversaw its product development team. She will now work on the group's strategic development.

Group CEO Andrew Miller said: "I am delighted that David and Tanya have joined the GNM executive. Both have worked tirelessly and with great creativity to make our digital-first strategy a reality, attract unprecedented numbers of global readers and create new revenue streams. These changes are part of our strategy to bring both GNM and GMG closer together as we build a stronger, more digitally-focused organisation.

"Adam and Chris have made huge contributions to the development of GNM’s commercial operations and we wish them both the very best in their new businesses.”
