Commercial broadcaster ITV is in line to win a 10-year renewal of its broadcast licenses for England and Wales from 2014 to 2024 without any significant amendment to its current terms and conditions.
Outstanding issues remaining to be resolved include whether Wales should be separated from the West of England region and a tweak to the Borders region to allow people in Southern Scotland to receive STV News.
ITV plans to cut local content from weekday regional TV news programmes in favour of aggregated output and is also proposing an increase in the number of regional news items it offers from nine to 17.
The decision is expected to be officially announced by the government later in the autumn.
