Fox News Business has reported that the launch of Apple’s new iMac line-up is ‘imminent’ and could be revealed as early as October.

“Multiple sources tell me that a new lineup of desktop machines from Apple is imminent,” wrote Clayton Morris on the Fox News site. “A quick look around Amazon's website shows dried up supplies for the 27-inch version. The popular MacRumors website looked at Apple store supplies and found dwindling availability as well, although 21-inch iMacs do appear to be widely available.”

Traditionally the 'drying up' of Apple stock has led to a new product launch soon after.

The current generation of 27 and 21.5-inch iMacs were rolled out last year, but the new product line will allegedly feature Intel's Ivy Bridge processors, USB 3.0, better graphics and expanded storage. The report also predicted a slimmer design.

It has also been suggested that the new iMacs will not feature high-resolution Retina displays like the newly updated 15-inch MacBook Pro.
