Nokia has been left red faced after being caught out featuring video footage shot from an SLR camera in an advert ostensibly showcasing the capabilities of its new Lumia 920 phone.

The substitution only came to light after technology site The Verge noticed the reflection of a cameraman in one of the frames – when zoomed in it shows that he was holding an SLR camera and not the Lumia as viewers had been led to believe.

It featured a couple out cycling whilst playing around with the new phone, professional footage of them was intercut by handheld footage which viewers would only assume originated from the phone.

Holfing their hands up Nokia were swift to issue an apology for the oversight, acknowledging that “an apology is due”.

Nokia explained: “We produced a video that simulates what we will be able to deliver with OIS,"

"Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but we should have posted a disclaimer stating this was a representation of OIS only. This was not shot with a Lumia 920... we apologise for the confusion we created."

The Lumia 920 is perhaps the most important handset launch in Nokia’s history with the future of the company riding on its success or failure, the botched nature of its launch.
