Graveyards aren’t well known as hubs of digital sophistication but that could all be about to change as our increasing dependence on gizmos and screens extends into the afterlife.
Rather than fruitlessly burying an iPhone alongside the deceased however this 21st century twist will see the very tombstone itself given a digital makeover.
The gimmick is product of one enterprising funeral director who has opted to etch QR codes into his sombre wares to allow smartphone wielding mourners to swot up on an online biography of the deceased – incorporating pictures, video and tributes.
Stephen Nimmo, md of the Dorset based Chester Pearce funeral parlour, said: “People often wander around cemeteries and look at gravestones and wonder who that person was. By using the QR codes they can find out all they need to know."
For those seeking immortality Nimmo’s £300 etched or glued on tabs may be their best bet in lieu of medical advances.
