Edinburgh International Magazine Festival (MagFest) has kicked off with a display of 40 national and international titles at Our Dynamic Earth; including Urban Realm, The Shelf Journal and Gratuitous Type.

The two day event concludes today at the height of the Festival, which has become a melting pot for both culture and the arts.

MagFest was launched by PPA Scotland and is co-curated by Jeremy Leslie, magCulture London and Andrew Losowsky of the Huffington Post New York.

Comprising an industry conference and exhibition the event comprises a number of workshops covering design techniques as well as information on how to get published.

In a statement PPA Scotland said: “We aim to build an international platform to showcase national and international titles, promote Scottish publishing, discuss key issues affecting magazine publishers today and reach out to a new generation of writers, editors and designers.

“Scotland has an incredibly high penetration of written media and is home to the oldest surviving consumer magazine, The Scots Magazine, launched in Edinburgh in 1739 and still published today.

“Scotland also produces award-winning consumer, business and professional titles and there is a flourishing contract publishing sector.”
