M&S has announced that it will provide staff in its wine and clothing departments with iPads, in order to help them find background information and order out of stock items.

In the clothing range, staff will be able to show customers full product ranges and place orders, to save them queuing at the tills.

‘Browse and order’ screens are also being introduced, with customers able to check product ranges and availability, as well as ordering items.

An M&S spokesperson told The Grocer: “This is all grounded in the belief that putting greater knowledge into the hands of colleagues helps them serve the customers better. Making ordering easier is also valuable.”

The iPads are currently used in 36 stores, with plans to roll them out across all 350 UK stores in the next year.
