UNICEF has celebrated reaching over 2 million followers on Facebook by creating a thank you message starring executive director Anthony Lake.
UNICEF’s social media strategy has focused on growing its fan base and deepening engagement with fans and followers, with 55 per cent of its fans under 25 years old.
In the video, Lake thanks Facebook fans for raising their voices for children in conflict and for mobilising media attention to the Sahel nutrition crisis from February 2012.
He said: “Today, we celebrate a milestone - two million fans on UNICEF Facebook page. That is you and you matter.
“You mattered when the nutrition crisis struck the Sahel region of West Africa – away from the cameras. You spoke out in your thousands and thousands and helped make the cameras come.”
