Creative agency, Mother, has launched a campaign aiming to shift the nations Olympic enthusiasm onto the plight of Greece – the birthplace of the Olympic Games.

A social media campaign entitled “F**K This I’m off to Greece” is attempting to rally support for the troubled country urging Britons to buy specially designed t-shirts, and donating directly to the healthcare charity Doctors of the World, through a Facebook page. All users who simply like the page will find themselves in with a chance of winning a £2000 holiday to Greece.

Jim Bletsas, design director at Mother, commented: “We’re seeing a country [Greece] where pensioners are forced to rummage around for food in dustbins, with old men shooting themselves due to the economic meltdown there, and so we wanted to do something about it.

"The London Olympics has caused massive excitement here, and now The Games are almost over we want to get Brits to give something back to the forgotten mother of The Olympics.”

The charity, Doctors of the World, has a free healthcare drop-in clinic in Perama, Greece. Originally set up to help struggling migrants access healthcare, it’s now seeing over 80 per cent of Greek patients, as the country’s healthcare system declines.

President of Doctors of the World Green, Nikitas Kanakis, said the crisis in Greece is much worse than people realise, adding: “We are talking about the start of a humanitarian crisis.”

Donations can be made through a Just Giving page and sales of the campaigns “F**K This I’m off to Greece” t-shirts through Facebook will also raise much needed funds. The campaign is being run as non-profit will all proceeds going to Doctors of the World in Greece.
