David Cameron has been left on the ropes by Twitter users after his PR team tweeted out a photo of the PM posing in front of a telly to view the Olympic boxing final – looking decidedly ill at ease.

Cameron committed the blunder whilst seemingly attempting to acquire some of Nicola Adam’s gold dust following her victory but was instead left holding fools gold.

The pic showed a flat panel television incongruously perched amidst the splendour of 10 Downing Street with a coffee cup, files and some sheets of paper scattered in front.

Cameron himself cut a solitary figure on his armchair, peering at the flickering light just 2m away whilst clutching his remote.

Never one to miss an opportunity for political point scoring Labour MP Tom Watson tweeted: "I almost feel sorry for you sitting there all alone in your new T-shirt with just you and the photographer."
