Marks & Spencer and Oxfam create Union Flag mosaic out of clothes to celebrate Olympics
Marks & Spencer and Oxfam have created a giant Union Flag mosaic in East London’s West Ham Park, to celebrate the Olympics.
The 21,000 items of recycled red, white and blue clothes donated via the M&S and Oxfam ‘shwopping’ clothes recycling campaign were turned into the flag by an army of local volunteers and children from Hackney in East London.
The image was created in less than two hours, as they aimed to complete their task before the winner of the 10km Open Water Swim at the Serpentine crossed the finish line, in which British athlete Keri-Anne Payne was favourite.
