Pizza Hut has withdrawn an all-you-can-eat Ramadan offer in Pakistan in a bid to ‘reduce gluttony’ but has stirred a storm of protest from locals as a result.

Muslims are banned from eating during the day whilst the festival is taking place, meaning many restaurants are packed in the evenings – particularly Pizza Hut.

This would see starving customers consume a never-ending succession of pizzas for the equivalent of £7, leaving the chain nursing a loss for each patron.

But instead of gorging on stuffed crust double cheese its clientele will be restricted to a single regular pizza and unlimited Pepsi as the franchise looks to balance its books.

Marya Khan, Pizza Hut Pakistans’ head of marketing, said: “The former all-you-can-eat format served as an unrestrained invitation to gluttony and waste, colliding with the very spirit of Ramadan."

“For those who do not consider Iftar deal as a means of just gorging after sunset, then the new Ramadan Fiesta offered by Pizza Hut is a well-balanced and valuable deal to enjoy finest pizza at a value price."

Writing on Pizza Huts local Facebook page one hungry customer complained: “This should be ALL YOU CAN DRINK ... not EAT. your deal SUCKS."
