Tesco has begun to offer mortgages through Tesco Bank, where its Clubcard holders are able to earn points which can be used towards their monthly mortgage.

The fixed rate deals require a deposit of 20 per cent, and sees a clubcard point added for every £4 spent by a customer on their mortgage.

Philip Clarke, chief executive of Tesco, said: “Customers want choice in banking from a brand they know and trust to deal with them fairly.”

Meanwhile, Tesco has also opened its first virtual supermarket at Gatwick airport, targeting holiday makers looking to order a delivery on their return.

The initial two-week trial has seen interactive screens installed in the airport’s North Terminal, allowing passengers to browse and choose their orders through scanning barcodes with the smartphones.

The project has been delivered by mobile agency Ribot and media agency Initiative.
