Facebook has initiated an investigation into media claims that bots are behind as much as 80% of clicks on a firms advertising campaigns and claimed that its apparent attempt to charge the same company to change its page name were down to a ‘miscommunication’.

Limited Run alleged that Facebook would only agree to change its page name if it stumped up the princely sum of £1,280, prompting the firm to retort: “Damn we were so pissed. We still are. This is why we need to delete this page and move away from Facebook. They're scumbags and we just don't have the patience for scumbags."

A Facebook spokesperson told The Drum: “We're currently investigating their claims. For their issue with the Page name change, there seems to be some sort of miscommunication. We do not charge Pages to have their names changed. Our team is reaching out about this now.”

In addition Limited Run claimed that several analytics services had independently found that only 20% of the ad clicks Facebook was charging for could be verified.
