Former ITV chief executive Stuart Prebble is set to lead the fifth review into the impartiality of the BBC, the BBC Trust has revealed.

Prebble says he is ‘delighted’ to be asked to lead the review, which will act as a follow up to the John Bridcut's 2007 report, From Seesaw to Wagon Wheel.

He added: "Having spent most of my career outside the BBC, I look forward to bringing a fresh perspective to examine how well the commitment to breadth of voice – which is unique to the BBC – is being met."

It has been said that the review's terms of reference will be published in the autumn, with the review itself to conclude next summer.
