Bradley Wiggins gets Royal Mail's Olympic stamp of approval

A commemorative stamp bearing a depiction of cycling ace Bradley Wiggins has been produced by the Royal Mail in recognition of his gold medal win.

Wiggins, or Wiggo to his fans, received the honour after completing the men’s time trial in pole position, taking his total medal haul to seven and making hiom Britain’s greatest ever Olympian.

The Royal Mail has promised to produce a stamp for every gold medal winner overnight and is the second to be minted after Helen Glover and Heather Stanning'sbroke Britain’s gold drought in the rowing.

A fleet of 90 Royal mail vans will deliver the prized stickers to over 5000 post office branches whilst a post box in both winners’ home towns with a post box in Penzance and Moray being repainted gold in their honour.

Royal Mail chief executive Moya Greene said: "We're delighted to be issuing these very special gold medal stamps to recognise our Olympic champion UK athletes.

"This is a first for Royal Mail and we are proud to play our part in celebrating the many victories this summer.

"We will be printing millions of stamps to enable customers to celebrate these sporting successes and I'm sure they will be treasured as unique souvenirs of Team GB's victories for years to come."
