Mobile network o2 has undertaken its first ever Instagram-based social media campaign to promote in European roaming tariff, o2 Travel, which sees cheaper data roaming rates available to its customers.

Partnering with five high profile Instagrammers o2 hopes to create a celebration of summer travel, Instagrammers Mike Kus (@mikekus), Jiri Siftar (@jeera), Dan Rubin (@danrubin), Finn Beales (@finn) and Naomi Atkinson (@naomiatkinson) have been sent on European adventures by o2 and are posting images on the site under the hashtag #o2Travel.

Members of the social networking site can also share their holiday photos using the same hashtag to be in with the chance to win one of three long weekends (in Milan, Berlin and Paris) which are available as prizes for the best photos, chosen by judge Mike Kus.

The networks newly created @O2uk instagram account will also be used to re-post some of the best photos submitted to its followers, with o2 also incorporating its Twitter feed to extend the reach of the campaign allowing entries under the #o2Travel Twitter hashtag as well.

Gary Booker, GM Consumer at o2, commented: “2012 will see the first ever truly social media holidays, as Brits head abroad ready to snap and share their holiday moments. Instagram is the place people share those photos which mean that little bit more – special moments which they’ve spent time perfecting, and all delivered via their mobiles

“It’s safe to say your phone has truly become as much of a holiday essential as a passport or suncream this summer.”
