Google launches specialised London 2012 Games page

Google has launched its very own London 2012 Games page to give users up-to-date information on their favourite athletes and events.

Google.co.uk/Olympics gives users up-to-the-minute information when the search key terms such as, London 2012, or Team GB. There is also a ‘Hot Searches’ section of the site which shows the topics, athletes and events which are being searched for around the world, analysis is updated hourly and users can click on any search topic to easily read the associated articles. On Google Play a collection of useful apps from results trackers to games will be available for seamless downloading onto Android devices.

Google+ users will also be able to read the latest posts from +The Olympic Games and the competing teams on Google+, for example +Team GB. Google+ will also allow users to show their support by customising their cover photo for use on Google+ and other social networking sites.

For those outside of London Google is making it possible for users to fly around the Olympic Park, explore the cycling and marathon courses or go on a virtual tour of London’s landmarks on Google Earth. Aerial imagery of the London 1948 Games can also be compared with those of London 2012.

YouTube is also helping those outside of the Capital feel part of the games by bringing it to millions around the globe. For the first time US viewers can watch any event on NBCOlympics.com which will ultimately stream 3,500 hours of games footage, all supported by YouTube. For 64 markets across Africa and Asia, including India, Indonesia, Kenya and Nigeria, the IOC will be streaming the games on YouTube. Great moments from the previous 29 Olympiads can also be explored through YouTube’s archives.
