Supermarket chain Aldi has extended its popular Scottish campaign ‘Give it Aldi’, with the launch of a new television advertisement, on air from Monday 23 July.

Following on from being named ‘Supermarket of the Year 2012’ at the Which? Awards, the premium discounter has invested £2 million in Scottish TV advertising, with ‘Give it Aldi’ being a play on the Scots’ expression ‘Give it Laldy’, encouraging Scots to take advantage of the deals in Aldi stores.

As 25 per cent of Aldi’s core product range is now Scottish, a figure which is set to grow, Richard Holloway, Managing Director at Aldi in Scotland, believes that the adverts will cement the popularity of the ‘Smart Scots Give it Aldi’ message. He commented: “Since the ‘Give it Aldi’ adverts launched earlier this year, we’ve witnessed a wave of positive reaction.

The ‘Give it Aldi’ phrase is being used across Scotland by Aldi fans who understand the importance of getting their hands on great products at great prices."

The 40 second advert, created by The Leith Agency, introduces three new characters an eccentric, old hill walker and two, young novice hill walkers. When the novices stop for a lunch break at the peak of the hill, seemingly out of nowhere, the older hill walker appears telling the young couple to ‘Give it Aldi’ while introducing them to some of the deals available before darting off back down the hill.

Holloway added: "We’re confident that the new advert will be a hit with Scottish audiences.”
