OnePoll and Riverbed Technology research Europe's Olympic viewing preferences

OnePoll and Riverbed Technology have conducted research into the viewing habits of the public with just under a week until the Olympic Games begin.

3,500 people across Europe were asked how and what they would be viewing at this year’s Games.

Though other research has predicted a rise in online viewing, across Europe the most preferred viewing platform for the Games is live television. Live internet streaming was popular with 13.1 per cent of Brits. More Germans than any other country plan on watching the Olympics at the event 35 per cent of German respondents cited this as their viewing preference, followed by 10.4 per cent of French respondents, and 8.6 per cent and 1 per cent of British and Dutch respondents respectively.

UK respondents we’re the most keen to watch the Games with 32.9 per cent saying they planned on watching more of this year’s Games than those prior. The Netherlands were found to be the most apathetic about the Games with 66 per cent claiming they would not be watching.

As internet streaming becomes more mainstream it was found that Germans were the least tolerant of online problems with feeds, the Dutch were found to be the most patient with many waiting for up to 10 minutes for a site to work before going to a different source or site.

In terms of popularity, the Men’s 100m final was found to be the most popular amongst all countries, with the Men’s football final most popular amongst Germans (56 per cent) and least popular amongst Brits. The French were found to be the most interested in the Men’s 100m freestyle swimming with 45 per cent of respondents looking forward to that.
