Global research company Kantar has revealed The Kantar.com Media Awards 2012 winners, highlighting the latest opinions of the British public on its media. With 1,000 people interviewed the findings uncovered their favourite news outlets, news consumption, predictions for the future and what effects, they feel, the Leveson Inquiry will have.

58.9 per cent of people said they trusted the BBC above all other news broadcasters, making it the most trusted, just 1 per cent of respondents trusted what Channel 5 tells them. In terms of newspapers The Guardian and Observer were most trusted followed by the Mail/Mail on Sunday and the Times/Sunday Times.

Findings also show more people trust television than newspapers with eight out of 10 people identifying a broadcaster they trust, while fewer than six out of 10 could name a newspaper they believed in. More than half also said the Leveson Inquiry had reduced their trust in the media, with 11 per cent saying they did not know what it was.

BBC Breakfast was voted Britain’s Favourite Morning TV News Show and, just weeks after the announcement of his departure, the Chris Moyles Show was picked as Britain’s Favourite Breakfast Radio News Show.

Topping the poll for Britain’s Favourite Journalist was Jeremy Paxman, of Newsnight, at the bottom, and named Britain’s Least Favourite Journalist was Piers Morgan, former Daily Mirror editor.

Other findings included: 80 per cent of 18 to 34-year-olds still think they will be buying newspapers in five years’ time, unsurprisingly men prefer sports news and women prefer features and showbiz, more than twice as many people preferred to read headlines online (via iPad, mobile or PC) than in print, and almost four in 10 people had shared a news item through Facebook.
