The Telegraph has announced that the imminent London 2012 Olympics will be subject to the most comprehensive coverage ever allotted by the paper to a single event.

A total of 200 staff have been deployed to produce a daily Olympics sport supplement for the duration of the event, displacing the business supplement which will be absorbed into the main paper.

Minute by minute coverage will be relayed via the Telegraph website.

Correspondents will include gold medal winner Sir Steve Redgrave, Denise Lewis, James Cracknell, Steve Cram, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Ed Moses and Haile Gebrselassie.

In addition an extra Olympic edition of the iPad app will also be produced at 5pm each day to round up all the key action.

The paper expects to shift an additional 1m copies during the sporting spectacular, including an anticipated 50,000 copies flogged by 100 street sellers strategically positioned at key venues.

A further 500,000 should be shifted at key Olympic travel points and a deal with WH Smith to give each reader a free bottle of water is also expected to increase readership.

Tony Gallagher, editor, The Daily Telegraph, said: “The Telegraph was the first newspaper to support London 2012 at the bid stage and since then we have been preparing ourselves for the most important sporting event the UK has ever hosted.

“It is an historic opportunity for The Telegraph and I am confident we will offer unrivalled coverage on every platform.”
