Presence Switzerland has launched a new digital communications platform as part of a new initiative to drive greater understanding of its culture and achievements.

The free-to-download ‘Swiss Games’ app, available on Android, iPhone and tablet devices presents information about Switzerland in a new and inventive way. With traditional aspects of Swiss legends and culture the games also combine the creativity and innovation of the new Switzerland and its growing game design industry. The three games include Swiss literary heroine Heidi in a classic ‘jump and run’ game and an augmented reality game called Swiss Shots, based on the tale of William Tell.

Aimed at attracting younger people the app is part of Presence Switzerland’s strategy, part of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA, to engage a younger audience. The launch also coincides with the official opening of the House of Switzerland UK 2012, Switzerland’s Olympic hospitality centre based at Glaziers Hall on the South Bank, at the Olympic Games.

Ambassador and head of Presence Switzerland, Nicolas Bideau, discussed the challenge faced “revealing Switzerland to the younger generation,” he commented: “We were aware that traditional communications methods would need to be adapted.

“This is why we decided to use the latest technology and some of the best games designers in Switzerland to bring our country to life in a way that they will relate to. Swiss Games provides a unique and innovative new platform which we hope will make Switzerland come alive for a whole new generation.”
