BskyB has announced its latest venture internet streaming service NowTV, which will allow users to watch online movie content, taking on similar rivals Netflix and LoveFilm.

Launching this week on PC, Mac and some Android and smartphones, NowTV will initially offer movie content from Sky’s 11 movie channels. Movies cost 99p for classics and £3.49 for new releases, alternatively the £15 per-month pass will give users unlimited access to more than 600 films.

The £15 monthly subscription plan is considerably more than rivals Netflix and LoveFilm which offer packages from £5-£7, however, Sky has confirmed that up to five titles will be added to the site each week, with some films debuting on NowTV 12 months before appearing on other online subscription sites. In addition, there are also plans to roll out Sky Sports and entertainment content, such as Sky Atlantic and Sky 1, to NowTV in the coming months.

A major advertising push is planned for later in the year when the service becomes available on more platforms.
