Talk about an own goal! A furious storm has erupted in the US after it was revealed that top designer Ralph Lauren has had the US uniforms for the London Olympics made in China.

Now leading Democratic politician Senator Harry Reid has called for the uniforms to be burned . He suggests the Olympic committee "start again …even if it's only singlets with the letter USA on them, painted by hand."

But Reid isn't going to get his way .

Designer Ralph Lauren said that the Chinese-labeled uniforms will remain for the Summer Olympics in London which begin in two weeks.

But he promised that the uniforms to be worn in the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia would be made in the United States.

In all six United States senators have voiced "extreme disapproval" of the U.S. Olympic Committee’s decision to have the uniforms made in China. The senators are planning to introduce a bill that would require uniforms to be made in America in the future.
