South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has unveiled a responsive website for all browsers and device formats with Mixd.

The site includes a drop-down navigation system, with content optimised, cached and minified to help it load quickly. It was built with mobile in mind, following research findings that many use such sites when travelling to a hospital or during an emergency.

Phil Shackleton, digital director at Mixd, said: “A fully responsive site such as this perfectly optimises content so that users have a great experience irrespective of their device, unlike other sites in this sector which are only adaptive. The adaptive design approach is similar to responsive although an adaptive site is not 100% fluid and will only resize once certain thresholds in screen resolution have been reached.

“Once we had demonstrated the potential of a fully responsive site using a prototype, our client fully bought in to the concept and understood the benefits this would bring to patients and visitors.”

Marie Lozman, e-communications officer at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, added: “Accessibility is one of the key aspects of our service to patients, so it was vital that we created a website which enabled quick and clear access to information, regardless of where or how it is being viewed. We are delighted with the outcome – the new site will be an indispensable guide for patients on our full range of healthcare services and hospitals.”
