Nick Grimshaw is to take over Radio 1's coveted breakfast show following the announcement of Chris Moyles’ departure this morning.

Grimshaw currently hosts the late show on the station, Mondays to Thursdays – 10pm to Midnight and on Sundays – 10pm to Midnight with Annie Mac. He is also one of a number of T4 hosts on Channel 4 currently presenting a six-part series on Saturday mornings called ‘New Look : Style the Nation’.

The appointment of 27-year-old Grimshaw came as a surprise for many as Greg James was widely touted as the favourite for the role. Speculation James was being “groomed to take over from Moyles” peaked in February when we took over the stations drive time show from long-standing host Scott Mills.

Moyles announced he would be leaving his breakfast show, from the end of September, this morning stating that “it’s someone else’s turn”.
