Sentiment for Andy Murray on social media grew from -19 per cent to +41 per cent during Wimbledon, Freeview’s British Pride Index found.

The research, developed in association with partners Meltwater Buzz, tracked tweets, posts, blogs and videos, with sentiment scores calculated by subtracting negative content from positive.

It was found that sentiment reached its peak last Monday following his performance, but dipped to -13% on Saturday 7 following his post-match interview in which he seemed ‘uninterested’.

However, sentiment grew 27% to +14% yesterday following his performance during the final and interview afterwards.

The Wimbledon final between Murray and Federer brought in a peak audience of 16.9 million, the BBC has said.
