The Sky Sports for iPad app has been updated to include split-screen technology ahead of the 2012 Formula One Santander British Grand Prix this weekend.

The news comes following research, conducted by IAB UK and ESPN in the UK, showing that more than half of UEFA 2012 viewers were using a ‘second screen’ for additional content during matches. Sky customers will now have the option to choose from different live camera feeds simultaneously on the same screen.

David Gibbs, director of Sky Sports Digital Media, commented: “The Sky Sports for iPad app – which has already received more than half-a-million downloads - is yet another example of how Sky Sports continues to innovate to bring an even richer viewing experience to customers.

“The update to the Formula 1™ companion experience will allow customers to get even more out of our Formula 1TM coverage through innovative split-screen technology, which we also plan to introduce as part of our companion app experiences for other sports including football and golf later this year.

The updated Sky Sports for iPad app is available through the App Store and includes other updates such as, TV guide integration, which allows users to review the next three programmes, set reminders and record through their device, and bespoke team pages for cricket (country and international).
