Oreo, the cookie brand, is at the centre of a social media storm after publicly backing the gay pride movement by posting an image of their tasty snack complete with a rainbow coloured filling.

Posted on the official Oreo Twitter feed with the strapline ‘Celebrate your pride for love” the biscuit drew near unanimous praise.

However Facebook proved to be a very different kettle of fish with Oreo’s 26.9m followers split down the middle where for every fan who gave the thumbs up another registered their distaste.

Responding to the stushie a Kraft UK spokesperson told the Huffington Post: “A Kraft spokesman told Huffington Post UK: "In recognition of Pride Month, Oreo created an ad depicting the rainbow flag with different colors of Oreo crème. We are excited to illustrate what is making history today in a fun and playful way.

"As a company, Kraft Foods has a proud history of celebrating diversity and inclusiveness. We feel the Oreo ad is a fun reflection of our values."
