The Guardian has denied ‘absurd’ rumours that it is to go online only, stating that despite its decline, print revenues continue to be its main source of income.

Rumours flying around the internet following a column written in the Sunday Times this week, claimed that The Guardian was planning to go online only from next year and would dump its loss-making printed edition.

The company spoke to The Drum in order to dispel the rumours, with a spokesperson stating: “We have seen these rumours over the last week and we can say that they are just absurd. There is no possibility of us going digital only next year, or the year after.”

The spokesperson added that the Guardian would continue to follow its five year plan of going ‘digital first’ but that its printed edition still created two-thirds of its revenue.
