Key figures from the Guardian, The Huffington Post and the Mail Online have offered a revealing insight into what makes their titles so successful after collecting some of the biggest prizes at the Online Media Awards.

Paul Lewis, special projects editor at the Guardian and winner of best Twitter feed for his coverage of the London riots, discussed how the paper had embraced social media and reader interaction to build its readership online. The Guardian won five awards in all including top prize Website of the Year.

Pete Picton, deputy publisher of Mail Online, told The Drum that 'good old fashioned journalism' was the only secret to the Mail Online's success after the paper won the Chairman's Award.

And Huffington Post UK editor Carla Buzasi, who was named Online Editor of the Year, spoke about how she believed the 'new kids on the block' have the opportunity to shake up the UK's media scene.

The Online Media Awards took place at the Emirates Stadium in London last Thursday. You can see all the results here.
