Cannes Lions: WPP wins Holding Company of the Year award at Cannes for second straight year

For the second year in a row, worldwide marketing company WPP has been named Holding Company of the Year, just days after agreeing the acquisition of global digital agency AKQA.

The award saw WPP pick up 1554.5 points, ahead of Omnicom with 1375.5 points and Publicis with 1032.

In a statement, WPP CEOE Sir Martin Sorrell and WPP Worldwide creative director John O’Keeffe said: “It’s wonderful to retain the Holding Company of the Year award, particularly when we see the calibre of work delivered across categories from so many brilliant creative agencies the world over. Long may we push one another to greater and greater heights. We congratulate all our clients and colleagues, and indeed all this year’s winners, irrespective of company.”

Awards won by WPP agencies included a PR Grand Prix for JWT Puerto Rico, an Outdoor Grand Prix for Ogilvy Shanghai and a Mobile Grand Prix for Johannes Leonardo (with Grow).

Advertiser of the Year was won by Mars, Serviceplan Munich was Direct Agency, Wieden + Kennedy Portland was Advertising Agency as well as Independent Agency, Duval Guillaume Modem, Antwerp was Media Agency, Ogilvy &Mather won the Network prize and the Palm d'Or won by MJZ USA.

Twitter creator Jack Dorsey also picked up the Media Personality of the Year prize, which he discussed with The Drum here.
