The Cannt Festival returns to London this week offering a refuge for all those poor sods left at home while their bosses swan off to Cannes.

Cannt is the brainchild of Dare creative director Laura Jordan-Bambach and LBI's executive creative director Simon Gill, who wanted to bring a little bit of the Cannes Lions experience to those not lucky enough to go.

This year's festival will again centre around a series of entertaining and educational events hosted by advertising and other creative luminaries.

The line-up includes a theatre production by the School of Communication Arts 2.0 (Hegarty’s alma mater); a lunchtime nightclub hosted by Hyper Island and LBi’s outdoor film festival.

Events have been planned by creative companies including LBi, Saatchi and Saatchi, Mother, Poke, Skive/Soup, Rehab Studio, Plan B Studio, Lean Mean Fighting Machine, Hyper Island, SCA 2.0, Pulse Films.

“I'm incredibly excited about the enthusiasm for Cannt we've seen this year; and the broad mix of events we have in planning," Jordan-Bambach said.

"We're hoping that 2012 will be the year that Cannt really breaks through into the mainstream, and becomes a broader, industry-wide festival; open to all to participate and attend.

At the heart of the Festival is the Cannt Skinny Cubs, a competitive brief and the Festival’s own award ceremony open to all creative students.

It is judged by creative directors and clients and gives budding creatives the chance to revel in the glory of winning their own feline-shaped 'It's not a Lion' trophy.
