The rise of the so called ‘social shopper’, social media guided supermarket regulars, has been charted in a new infographic compiled by digital agency TAMBA.

Focusing on the bread and butter issues that affect us all (literally) the agency sought to correlate mobile and online content with the grocery items we toss in our trolleys.

As in most sectors of the economy mobile is becoming an increasingly potent force, with 59% of UK shoppers accessing a supermarket website through a tablet. Intriguingly however just 5% of UK shoppers actually own a tablet.

The power of social marketing over more conventional forms of advertising was reflected in the fact that 76% of folk rely on recommendations from their friends to inform their purchase decisions, versus just 15% for advertising.
