A special award, Minor Miracle, is to be handed out at this year’s British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) awards to honour outstanding digital work in the face of adversity.

The awards, which are open for entry until midnight on Friday 6 July following a deadline extension, will introduce the new premium award, honouring work created on a shoestring budget or against-impossible-odds.

The new award will be handed out alongside the Innovation, Agency of the Year and Grand Prix awards on the night.

Voting is currently underway for the inaugural British Digital Hall of Fame, where 20 digital luminaries will be inducted following an online vote currently taking place. Potential inductees include writer and actor Stephen Fry, editor of The Guardian, Alan Rusbridger and Martha Lane Fox, the Government's digital adviser.

Chris Kempt, managing director of Kempt and chair of the BIMA Awards 2012, said: “I’ve chaired the BIMA Awards for several years now and am continually blown away by the quality of work they attract. 2012 looks set to be the best yet and if the BIMAs are the barometer of the UK digital industry, then I can safely say we’re in world-beating form.”

Entries to awards can be made through the BIMA awards website.
