London mayor Boris Johnson, and his bouffant hair, have appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman – with the latter gaining more attention than the man it’s attached to.

Johnson appeared with chat show favourite in a private capacity in a bid to plug his new book to those across the pond but conversation focussed on his blonde locks.

Letterman, in jocular fashion, enquired: “And how long have you been cutting your own hair?"

This prompted Johnson to retort: “That's a low blow. I was beginning to think I had got through this pretty unscathed. You even mentioned the book more than a few times."

On more weighty matters Johnson expanded on his Prime Ministerial ambitions by stating: “I suppose I could but as you have already pointed out I could be president of the United States, technically speaking. I think there are limits to the credulity of our audience."

Johnson, despite being top dog in London, was actually born in New York.
