Alton Towers has launched a new, mobile-friendly version of its website.

The site, developed by Headland Multimedia, has enabled users to fully experience the theme park’s online services when browsing from their smartphones, including booking tickets and making hotel reservations.

The e-commerce enabled site was designed by Leeds-based Headland Multimedia, Alton Towers’ retained web agency.

Their use of sophisticated taxonomy, the structuring of the website’s information, means that when smartphone users access the Alton Towers Resort site, it automatically detects which mobile platform they are on and uses mobile specific templates to ensure content displays accurately and consistently.

Graeme Wilson, Headland director, said: “This is an issue that all organisations must address. Google has predicted that internet access via smartphones will overtake PC access within the next three or four years, so companies must make sure that their websites are optimised for mobile access.”

Headland has also recently completed a mobile-friendly website for Machine Mart, the UK’s leading supplier of power tools, machinery and workshop equipment.

“Although their target audiences are diverse, the convenience of product information, offers and e-commerce on the move to both theme park visitors and tradesmen is equally important” added Wilson.
