IPC Media has today announced that it will replace outgoing NME editor Krissi Murison with her deputy Mike Williams when she steps down to join the Sunday Times in June.

Williams started working with NME as a freelancer before joining the staff as features editor in September 2010. He was made deputy editor in June 2011 and co-ordinated the editorial coverage of the music weekly's 60th birthday celebrations.

Before joining NME, Williams was the editor of Kruger magazine, which he launched in 2004 and edited for six years. His work there saw him named Editor of the Year at the Record of the Day Awards in 2009.

"I'm super excited to be the new editor of NME," Williams said. "As far as dream positions go, it really doesn't get any better than this.

"Krissi Murison has done an amazing job as my predecessor, and I'm totally honoured to pick up the baton from her. My challenge is to make NME magazine and the wider NME brand even sharper, our message more coherent and to engage even more with NME’s audience of passionate music fans."

Murison, who became the first female editor in NME's history in 2009, is joining the Sunday Times as features editor.
