Neil Jones, former director of commercial strategy for News International, has joined Johnston Press in the new role of group commercial and marketing director.

Based in London, Jones will take up the role on 18 June. He has been brought in following the recent strategic review overseen by CEO Ashley Highfield and will see him made responsible for creating and driving the group’s commercial strategy, including advertising and overseeing its marketing.

Prior to News International, Jones spent 17 years at Carat, latterly acting as managing director.

Highfield said: "I am really delighted that we have attracted someone of Neil's calibre to this important new role which will be key to top line growth. Neil will drive our national advertising sales, devise new joined-up propositions for advertisers across print and digital, and oversee all commercial revenues including circulation."

Jones will work closely alongside the Johnston Press digital development team in order to identify growth opportunities, supported by group commercial director Chris Babayode.

Jones commented: "Johnston Press is leading the transformation of regional media and I am delighted to be joining Johnston at such an exciting time for the industry. Ashley Highfield has an inspiring vision for the future and I look forward to commercially bringing it to life.
