McCann Birmingham has ticked another name off its recruitment hitlist with the appointment of Doug Laird as senior writer.

Laird, previously of Rave, was one of several creatives at rival agencies who McCann namechecked in its infamous recruitment ad printed in The Drum in March last year.

The ad identified writers and art directors coveted by McCann's incoming creative director Vince McSweeney, who was so pleased by the results and kerfuffle it caused that he repeated the trick and ran a second 'List' ad in January this year.

McSweeney said: "Doug was one of the first creatives I spoke to when I arrived in the UK. I've always rated him as a writer and he's a top bloke too.

"It took a while for the stars to align and for us to get him across to McCann, but I'm delighted he's here now."

Also joining McCann are junior creatives Ben Woolrych and Ash Humby, who have spent the last two years at RBH.
